RE: Adirondack Park Scenic Route 3

Either take I-90 ($$$$ and more $$$) to I-81 North in Syracuse or you can take the slow route of Rt 104 to I-81 North. I bypass Watertown & get off I-81 at exit 48 (Rt 342) and take that to Rt 3.
Take Rt 3 to Rt 86 in Saranac Lake and follow Rt 86 into Lake Placid. Rt 3 starts to get hilly around Star Lake but nothing major. There are a few areas with 2 uphill lanes for slow vehicles, after all it is logging country.
For a campground we like North Pole Resorts in Wilmington, about 8 miles from Lake Placid. The 100 Acre Woods side is new & has pull-throughs. But be forwarned - Rt 86 from Lake Placid to Wilmington is narrow & winding.

RE: Chevy 1500, 3.73 vs. 4.10 axle

Are you stuck on a GM?
Ford's Triton engine makes more torque & they have a six-speed transmission, GM still uses the 4L60E in the 1/2-tons.

I'm not sure but Alpin Haus RV in Amsterdam NY may allow overnights.

RE: Dual Cam Sway Conrol Cam Arm Nut Size

Hmmm....I made a wrench out of some 1/2" stock, flame cut the jaws and fine tuned them with an angle grinder. IIRR it's 1-1/2".

DB has a 2400 & it runs his 5er's AC. My Honda 2000i runs mine but I seem to be an exception.

Down the road from the Lake Placid KOA is North Pole Resorts. Check out the 100 Acre Woods section.

RE: Do you dump your holding tanks after a weekend trip?

Unless we're boondocking I dump before we leave. For those time I have to dump at home I dump down the sewer cleanout in my front yard.

RE: Considering Small Hybrid-Advice

Explorer tow ratings vary widely. Do you have the factory Class III package or the Class II hitch?

RE: A/C motor stopped working

If it spins freely it's sure acting like a bad cap. While you're at it you may want to consider a soft start kit also.

RE: Frig takes a dump on maiden trip (used TT)

I had a 12V wire rub through on a sharp corner on the fridge burner box. It worked OK when stopped but blew a fuse when travelling. Some electrical tape & ty-raps fixed it & re-positioned the wires.

RE: Tow with a "patched" tire?

Having worked in a tire shop I always used the combination plug / patch or "umbrella" patch. Yes you need to dismount the tire to repair it this way. I've seen too many plug-only repairs work loose & leak. And I've towed with tires I've repaired like that.

Working, the bane of a job with 24/7/365 coverage. Actually worked a double.

RE: Generator Gas/Ethanol Problems

Since MTBE was outlawed most gas has 10% ethanol in it as an oxygenator. My chainsaws, weed wacker, Honda 2000 & lawnmower all seem OK with it.

RE: GM Trailer Wiring Question

On my Envoy the 12V charge line is hot all the time. I don't know if the trucks have a relay or not. I haven't gotten around to putting a relay in mine yet, I figured I could use the DRL circuit to enable the charge line.
Rumor has it on the '07 trucks GM did away with the plug 'n play connector, the wires are open ended & tied up under the dash. You need to match them by function and not by color to the brake controller.

Unless you get a 3/4 ton Yukon or Suburban I think your current Durango has more tow capacity than a 1/2 ton Yukon.

RE: grill or no grill

I didn't like the idea of greasy smoke going up on the awning. We have a separate grill.
I bought a track and made a shelf to go on the rail in place of the grill.

RE: Removing tires for the first time

Seal puller? A claw hammer or small demolition tool (mine's a Stanley Wonder Bar) will work.
I jack under the frame near a spring hanger & do one wheel at a time. And I have the TV hooked up but no WD bars just to make sure the trailer doesn't roll.

RE: Super slide stops?

Ours came with them also. And we too had a piece of paper taped over the switch labled "Remove Bars."
But we found out the bars would fall out anyway during travel. So we don't bother with them & haven't had an issue with the slide moving on its own.

I wonder if Hendricks regrets letting Busch go?
